About dance shoes

How do I choose a fitting dance shoe and care for it?
Dance shoes are generally worn tighter than street shoes. They must fit snuggly to support the foot and maintain balance on the floor. The shoes will stretch so they must start out tighter. For beginners we recommend shoes with a smaller opening at the front to give you more support. We even have small heels (3.5cm) for those people who aren't used to high heels. Dance shoes always have a good balance as the heels are fixed directly under your heel. We have a good collection of shoes in our showroom in Zürich so you can find the perfect fit. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Fitting open-toe dance shoes
In open-toe shoes the sole should be completely covered by your feet; some dancers prefer their toes go over the sole by up to 2cm. This is subject to wearer preference; We suggest going as short as is comfortable for you.

Fitting closed-toe dance shoes
In closed-toe styles (womens and mens) the toes should be as close to the end of the shoe as comfortable, without crunching your toes. They will stretch a little after you start dancing in them.

Sizing
All our shoes are in European sizes but they are marked with US sizes. There is a conversion table in our Info tab for approximate US size. The Classic series shoes are slightly longer than the Premium Series. If you are unsure, you can measure your feet in cm and use the conversion table to find your size.  Ballo sneakers do not come in half sizes and are marked with Canadian sizing. We will do our best to deliver the corresponding European size. Please contact us if you are unsure about shoe sizing, we will be happy to assist you.

Care for your dance shoes
We recommend brushing the suede soles with our special brushes to keep them free of dirt build-up, making them slippery. If you are dancing on conventional dance floors, occasional brushing to rough up the soles will ensure that you won't slip. Also make sure to not wear your dance shoes outside and avoid getting them wet. Mens shoes should be cared for like any leather shoe. Patent leather shoes can be polished with a patent leather polish or damp cloth. Ladies fabric or satin shoes can be cleaned with a damp cloth for light dirt, or shoe fabric cleaner. Ladies leather shoes can be cared for with a neutral leather polish or cleaner. Do not put your dance shoes in the washing machine!
