5 reasons why West Coast Swing is a great dance.
1) In WCS, the leader can start a figure, but the follower can also "hijack" the figure to add a personal touch. This constant interaction transforms the dance from "do as I say" to a real conversation between the leader and the follower.
2) West Coast Swing can be danced fast, slow, soft or powerfully and it is suitable for all styles of music. Whether for rock, pop, blues, jazz and pretty much everything in between.
3) West Coast Swing is most difficult when it is the first dance style you learn, simply because it borrows steps from every other dance style. It has its own "steps" that are unique, but you can also add the drama of a tango, the swank of hip hop or the flexible body rolls of zouk.
4) As you can imagine, West Coast Swing is a very flexible dance, with many possible figures to try. While proper technique is still very important, WCS puts more emphasis on personalising the figure. No two dances are the same.
5) In West Coast Swing, you can dress how you want while dancing the way you want. It's a fabulously casual way to develop your playful side and creativity. It helps you reconnect with the music and express it in a way that is unique to you. And that's what dance is too.
